PLAINFIELD – A baby died in a crash on I-395 in Plainfield Saturday afternoon when a car she was in was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer truck.

Police said the crash occurred in Plainfield near exit 29 on I-395 at around 2:15 p.m.

Police said a truck carrying bread crashed into the back of an 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by Erica Bedard, 25, of Danielson. The car was forced into the shoulder of the highway. The truck kept going to the right, left the highway and went down an embankment where it came to a stop in a densely wooded area.

Police said Bedard’s 3-month-old daughter, Ciera Dube, was in the back seat of the car, in a rear-facing car seat. Both were taken to the William Backus Emergency Care Center in Plainfield where Dube was pronounced dead and Bedard was treated for non life-threatening injuries and released.

The truck driver, Edward Stratton, 44, of Glastonbury, wasn’t injured.

The crash is under investigation. Anyone with information should call police at 860-779-4900.
