NEW BRITAIN -- On September 11th, 2001, the New Britain Rock Cats were set to take on Reading in Game 1 of the Eastern League Championship series.

The team waited as the day went on to see if the game would be cancelled, which it eventually was.

But a few days prior, in order to get to the championship, the Rock Cats had to get past the Norwich Navigators. They did just that thanks to a walk off home run by Michael Cuddyer.

Thanks to that winning game, Rock Cats player Brad Thomas life was forever effected.

“He was scheduled to be on one of those flights that went into the World Trade Center,” voice of the Rock Cats Jeff Dooley said.

Brad Thomas said years later in an interview that Michael Cuddyer saved his life. If Cuddyer hadn’t hit the home run to help them win the game, he would have been on that flight.
