Hartford man arrested for Willington shooting

WILLINGTON – Police said a crash on Interstate 84 in Willington led them to arrest a man for shooting another man in the leg.

State police said they arrested Luis Sierra, 24, of Hartford, for third-degree assault, disorderly conduct and illegal possession of a narcotic.

He is in custody on $25,000 bail and was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Superior Court in Rockville.

Police responding to a possible crash said a man was seen on Sunday at around 6:45 a.m. walking on I-84 near a rest area with a bullet wound through his right calf. The man, also from Hartford, had other injuries that were less serious.

They said they never found a crash but they found Sierra and a blue Honda near exit 70. The car did not show any signs of being involved in a crash, according to state police.

Police said they found used .380 shell casings both in and around the car and a .380 semi-automatic pistol was found on the ground. Police said it had been tossed over the bridge where the Honda was stopped. Police said they also found a bag of methamphetamine.

Police said Sierra and the other man were involved in some kind of fight, which resulted in Sierra shooting the man.

The shot man was taken to Hartford Hospital by an ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation continues.
