Around noon a car crashed into a pole on Frontage Road in East Haven, near Home Depot. Three people were in the car at the time of the crash, and one person, a woman, in the car died. She has been identified as Gaitana Girgenti, 27.
A second woman in the car was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
A third person in the car fled the scene before police arrived, and police are searching for him. He is described as a black male in his late teens or early 20s, and was wearing black shorts with a blue stripe on them and blue sneakers.
East Haven police are searching for the man involved and are still on scene trying to determine what occurred.
