HARTFORD — It seems that parents in Connecticut will have to wait to become empty-nesters.
According to a new report from Trend CT, which examined new data released by the U.S. Census, 40 percent of millennials–those aged 18 to 34–in Connecticut are still living with their parents. That’s the second highest rate in the country, just behind New Jersey.
The situation is even worse in the western part of the state; in Litchfield and Fairfield counties, that rate is 45 percent. Out in Windham County comes in at just under 29 percent living with their parents. It appears the further east you go in the state, the fewer millennials are living with their parents.
Strangely, Connecticut also ranks pretty high for the percent of millennials who are living with a spouse. Nearly 20 percent in the state do, putting us at seventh in the country. The other two categories were “living alone” and “living with a partner.”
