CLINTON – A man has been arrested after officials said he tried to hire a hit-man who would kill the suspect’s former wife.

The United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut’s office said James Godiksen, 54, of Clinton, was arrested after he talked to an undercover agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and gave him a down payment. He was arraigned in Federal court on Friday.

Officials said the ATF received information that Godiksen was seeking a person who would be willing to kill his ex-wife. Between September 10 and September 14, Godiksen an ATF agent spoke  numerous times. The suspect offered to pay the agent $5,000 to murder the woman and supplied the agent with a physical description, her phone number, her home address, her place of work and the route she typically drove to work.

Godiksen was arrested on September 14 after he met with the undercover agent and provided him with a down payment of $80, some of which was to be used to purchase a knife.

The crime carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
