STRATFORD–A mother of a toddler is still recovering after protecting her child.

On Thursday around 3 p.m. a woman and toddler were on Quenby Place in Stratford when two dogs, a rottweiler and a pit bull, escaped from their yard on Reut Drive and attacked.

The dogs started attacking the 22-month-old, at which point the mother intervened.

A witness saw the incident and used a shovel to stop the attack.

The child was treated for injuries that aren’t life-threatening and was released from the hospital, but the mother is still recovering at Bridgeport Hospital.

The dogs have been quarantined away from other animals and people as the investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made, but Animal Control can decide to bring charges based on the outcome of the investigation.
