Child struck by car while riding bicycle in Coventry

COVENTRY — A 7-year-old girl was struck by a car while riding her bicycle Friday afternoon.

Local police were dispatched to the area of 40 Nathan Hale Drive at about 5:15 p.m. for reports of a motor vehicle versus bicycle crash. Upon arrival, they discovered the 7-year-old female victim had been riding down the street when a sedan hit her and knocked her off the bike.

The girl was reportedly alert and conscious when paramedics arrived, but they sent her to the hospital because of a suspected head and neck injury from the impact.

Lifestar was dispatched to the area to rush the child to Windham Hospital for the possible head trauma.

Police say they do not initially believe the sedan operator was at fault, however the case remains under investigation.
