BRIDGEPORT — Bridgeport‘s chief of police says he will not dispatch officers to Kentucky in order to retrieve an SUV used by Mayor Joe Ganim and his staff that was recently stolen.

The Connecticut Post reports Chief Armando Perez said Tuesday that he’s not willing to pay overtime for a 30-hour roundtrip ride to bring the vehicle back to Connecticut.

Instead the city will hire a company to ship the 2015 Chevy Tahoe from Oak Grove, Kentucky to Bridgeport. The SUV was discovered by local authorities late last week following its disappearance last Thursday.

A 20-year-old suspect has been charged with the theft by Oak Grove police.

Ganim spokesman Av Harris says the vehicle was left unlocked in the parking area of the government center with the keys inside.
