HARTFORD — A batch of new laws is taking effect in Connecticut.
Beginning Saturday, qualified minors with certain debilitating conditions will be allowed to use the state’s medical marijuana program and obtain the drug from one of Connecticut’s dispensaries.
Many of the new laws were passed during the recent regular session of the General Assembly and are criminal justice-related. For example, one new law increases the criminal penalty for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol with a child inside the vehicle.
Another new law requires subjects of temporary restraining orders to transfer their firearms to police or a firearms dealer within 24 hours after being served with the order.
Also, hospitals and other medical facilities are now required to inform police when they treat patients for serious stab wounds.
