NEW HAVEN — The University of New Haven Chargers won the seventh straight Elm City Bowl over the Southern Connecticut State University Owls 38-20 Saturday afternoon.

Even before the game started emotions boiled over as both teams had a shoving match at mid field. The action didn’t cool off once the whistle blew.

UNH started the scoring off going for it on a fourth and goal from the Owl two yard line. Ajee Patterson floated the touchdown pass to Ty Headen in the corner of the end zone to get the Chargers on the board. They would lead 14-0 when Owls strike back, Raymond Catapano from the shotgun hits a wide open Devante Jenkins for the TD.

The scoring never slowed down from there as Chargers lead 21-14 at the half. In the second half UNH took control late thanks to senior running back and New Haven native Andre Anderson who scored 2 touchdowns on 151 yards rushing. The Chargers improve to 3-2 on the year and next week travel to face Merrimack. SCSU fall to 2-3 and will take on Pace University next Saturday in New York City.
