WEST HARTFORD — The Jewish community celebrated Rosh Hashanah Sunday evening in Elizabeth Park in West Hartford. Congregation Beth Israel, a reform synagogue, holds a service marking the Jewish New Year each year in the park.

Despite chilly temperatures and a dreary evening, dozens of people attended the service.

The service was led by Congregation Beth Israel’s Rabbi Michael Pincus, Rabbi Andi Fliegel, Cantor Lauren Phillips, Cantorial Soloist Laura Deutsch, and instrumentalists Bruce Badner and Chet Zaslow. An American Sign Language interpreter was also there.

Rosh Hashanah kicks off the high holidays and concludes with Yom Kippur next week.

Happy New Year to all of those celebrating!
