HARTFORD -- October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Catherine Bradshaw, Interim Executive Director of Interval House, the state’s largest domestic violence intervention and prevention organization stopped by FOX 61's Good Day Connecticut Monday to talk about Interval House and why October is so important in the cause against domestic violence.

Interval House is the State’s largest domestic violence intervention and prevention program. Since 1977, Interval House has provided services that include a 24-hour hotline (860-527-0550), a confidentially located 20-bed emergency shelter, court advocacy, support groups, children’s program, education & outreach and our Men Make a Difference, Men Against Domestic Violence™ program.

In 2015 alone, Interval House provided services to approximately 8,000 people, handled more than 12,000 hotline phone calls and sheltered about 300 women and children.

Just within the last two weeks, the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence released some heart-wrenching statistics. Since 2000, more than 222 people in Connecticut have been killed in domestic violence incidents by their spouse or partners…and another 3,600 people have suffered serious and near-fatal injuries in that same time period.

Many victims find themselves trapped and feeling like there is no hope or help, and people should know Interval House is here to help as are the 17 DV program throughout Connecticut.

Someone who needs help can call Interval House’s hotline at 860-527-0550 or the Statewide DV hotline at: 1-888-774-2900. Crisis counselors are available 24-hours a day 7-day a week.

Interval House has several events and projects going on in October as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The FOX 61 Domestic Violence “Listen, Learn, Lend-A-Hand and Lead” PSA is airing on this station. It features members of “Men Make a Difference, Men Against Domestic Violence.” Jon Hitchcock, Vice President and General Manager, is a member of that group.
