SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts – Big Y is warning customers in Massachusetts and Connecticut after “skimmers” were found and removed on five single payment terminals in five of their 75 stores.

The five skimmers had been placed at food service and pizza registers last week.

The five stores are located in Avon and Rocky Hill, Connecticut, and Wilbraham, Northampton and Cooley Street in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Big Y released the following statement:

“We actively are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident, and we notified and are working with law enforcement. We have inspected all of our terminals, and we continue to do so. Although our investigation is ongoing, at this time we have no reason to believe that any customer data was compromised. If this changes, we promptly will notify impacted individuals and provide them with information so that they can take steps to protect themselves.

As a best practice, customers should always review their bank and credit card statements for any signs of fraudulent activity and, if they have any questions or concerns, contact their bank or credit card company directly.

If any of our customers have questions or concerns about this matter, please direct them to our toll-free number 1-877-914-2449, Monday-Friday, between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM.”
