Hartford police arrest man with morphine, cash, gun

HARTFORD — Police arrested a Newington man who they say had a large quantity of morphine and quinine, a .357 Magnum and almost $7,000 in cash.

Police arrested Harwinder Singh, 25, of Newington Thursday and charged him with illegally obtaining or supplying of a prescription drug. Police said they had developed information that Singh was selling morphine and quinine which is used as a cutting agent for heroin. Adding those substances to heroin can cause overdoses in users according to police.

Singh arrestPolice obtained a search warrant for the Mini Mart at 737 Maple Ave., Hartford. Singh was detained in the area of the business and police found 501 grams of  quinine/morphine and a Ruger .357 Magnum revolver.

Police also executed a search warrant at 736 Maple Avenue, seizing 20 Viagra pills and 89 Herbal Viagra pills. Another 2,500 grams of suspected morphine/quinine, box of .357 and .38 caliber rounds, numerous packaging materials and approximately $6,964 in U.S. currency was found at Singh’s home in Newington.
