WALLINGFORD -- October is of course breast cancer awareness month, and a bank in Wallingford decided to go pink on Friday.
As part of its "Bring Change" campaign, the TD Bank branch on Route 5 in Wallingford held a cancer fundraiser for The Sisters' Project, a Wallingford-based non-profit started by several breast cancer survivors.
"We became an organization in 2010 and officially a nonprofit organization in 2011, and in that short time we've raised almost $500,000," said Mara Dunleavy, a member of the Board of Directors and a cancer survivor.
The proceeds from Friday's event go to two annual $2,000 scholarships for high school seniors who have been impacted by cancer in some way.
"Being that it's cancer, breast cancer awareness month, this was a perfect time for us to choose an organization like The Sisters' Project," said Janice Lea, a vice president and filed marketing manager for TD Bank.
TD Bank, with 70 stores in Connecticut, hosts fundraising events in many of its stores throughout the state on Fridays -- all with a different local cause in mind.
