STAMFORD - Some Connecticut based charities are joining forces to assist Haiti, which was devastated by Hurricane Matthew when it blew through the country as a category 4 storm.

Americares hosted the event which included representatives from Fairfield based Save the Children and the groups Hope for Haiti and Haitian Health Organization. "We can't do it alone, we need everyone to come together," said Tiffany Kuehner, the board chair at Hope for Haiti.

In the sprawling Americares warehouse, boxes full of medical supplies were forklifted into the loading zones bound for Haiti. "We've brought everyone together today because the situation in Haiti is dire," said Donna Porstner from Americares. "There are more than a million people in need of food, water, and medical assistance."

The rally received a visit from Senator Richard Blumenthal who stopped in to address the relief workers and support their efforts. "Haiti has suffered so much in the past years," Blumenthal said. "We have an obligation to do more for children and families."
