WORCESTER -- A powerful and deadly storm hammered the northeast Friday night through Saturday morning, bringing severe flash flooding.

More than half-a-foot of rain fell in parts of Massachusetts Friday, turning roads into rivers.

Flash flood warnings were issued across central and eastern Massachusetts.

In the city of Worcester, vehicles were submerged in water, and officials reportedly rescued several motorists.

Manhole covers were even washed away by the fast-moving water.
