BANTAM - Torrington's former superintendent of streets is scheduled to appear in court after being arrested and charged with stealing city property.

Robert Lizotte, 60, of Bethlehem, is expected to be arraigned on a felony larceny charge Monday in Bantam Superior Court in Litchfield. Torrington police said they had been investigating Lizotte after the Mayor’s office received anonymous letters accusing Lizotte and other city workers.

Police said Lizotte had been stealing and selling city-owned granite curbstone over a number of years but they were only able to seize granite involved in two illegal sales.

Lizotte retired earlier this month after being placed on administrative leave.

He was arrested on October 12  and was released on a $2,500 bail.
