SEYMOUR--On the streets of Seymour there are some brightly colored lines in the middle of the road. It’s all to show appreciation to the town’s first responders.

First Selectman Kurt Miller said the idea came from a Facebook post he saw from another community that was putting a blue line in front of the police station to show respect for those who had lost their lives in the service of others.

Another contributing factor was the positive feedback the town got after a recent forum that allowed the community to interact with police officers.

"Just trying to squash any feelings of animosity that there might be," Miller said about the recent efforts to connect the community with its protectors. "We thought that this was a nice touch that the residents stand behind our police. But then as we were talking through it a little more, we also thought about our volunteer firemen and volunteer EMS workers and how it would be nice to pay tribute to them as well."

So lines were painted in red in front of the fire department, and green lines will soon be painted on the road by the ambulance bay for EMS workers.

Chief of Seymour Ambulance Kyle Kelly said, "Just that small gesture showing us the support and that the town cares about us, essentially coming down from the first selectman's office means the world to us. To have that blatant show of support for the town’s people to see, for everyone driving down Route 8 to see, it means a lot to us."
