WEST HARTFORD -- Ellis Boettger traveled to Spain with one objective: ride across the country on just one wheel.

Boettger is a West Hartford native and a senior at St. Anslem College in New Hampshire. But he didn't spend his last semester of junior year in the Granite State. Instead, Boettger went on a nearly month-long pilgrimage across Spain traversing the famed Camino de Santiago, a 500-mile trail that crosses the country.

And he did the entire trek aboard his unicycle.

"I like to use it as one of the fun facts about myself," Boettger said during a ride at the West Hartford reservoir. "I left in April doing about 12 to 15 miles a day."

Boettger added that he was "was constantly stopped for selfies."

And his unicycle is really a part of him. "It's changed me in so many ways, just opened my eyes to a whole new experience."

Boettger, a political science major, said he plans to return to Spain and ride the Camino again after he graduates, but next time he says he will ride the route for charity.
