HARTFORD — Connecticut’s health insurance exchange is preparing for its fourth open enrollment period, but this time customers will find fewer choices.

Two insurance companies, Anthem and ConnectiCare, will be offering plans to individuals through Access Health CT this year. There were a high of four insurers during last year’s open enrollment, but United Healthcare and HealthyCT are no longer participating.

This year’s open enrollment begins Nov. 1 for health insurance coverage that begins next year.

An analysis by The Associated Press and consulting firm Avalere Health has found about one-third of U.S. counties will have only one health marketplace insurer next year. That’s roughly double the number of counties in 2014.

Access Health CT has about 100,000 customers enrolled in private insurance plans. That number could grow to 115,000 or 125,000.
