VERNON — A Mansfield man has been sentenced to serve four years in prison for stealing funds from two veterans‘ organizations and using some of the money to pay for internet pornography.

The Journal Inquirer reports that 72-year-old Frederick Brown cut a deal with prosecutors and agreed to plead guilty to larceny charges.

Brown stole $143,000 from Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 938 in Willington and $12,300 from American Legion Post 14 in Vernon.

State police started investigating in 2014 after a donation check from the VFW bounced. Brown was Post 938’s treasurer and formerly the Legion’s finance officer.

Authorities determined that Brown paid $32,000 to a company that handles secure transactions for a website hosting webcam pornography.

Brown pleaded guilty last Friday.
