NEW HAVEN – New Haven Police have charged a  man they said shot another man back in June.

On Wednesday, June 27, police were called to the area outside of 43-45 Kensington Street in New Haven to investigate a shooting. Police said a black man had been leaning against a car and began shooting. Recovered ballistic evidence suggests the street-side shooter was in a firefight with at least one other person shooting from between two houses.

The man shot was Jaray Turner, 24, of New Haven. He suffered a non-life threatening wound to his leg. Turner is a convicted felon and on parole, according to police.

Police said that on the next day, after executing a search warrant, they arrested Ibrahim Shareef Jr., 29, of New Haven.

Shareef, a convicted felon, was charged with criminal possession of a pistol, unlawful discharge of a firearm and illegally carrying a pistol without a permit. At that time, Shareef had not been charged with assault. A .38 caliber revolver was recovered, according to police.

On Monday police arrested Shareef with the first-degree assault of Turner.

Shareef remains in custody for the previous gun charges and for violating his parole.
