HARTFORD – With the holidays fast approaching, many homeowners mistakenly believe it’s a bad time to put their house on the market.
A Connecticut real estate expert believes the cold weather months are actually a hot time to sell your home. Broker Bobbi Mathues, owner of Realty World Hometown in Simsbury, came oon FOX 61’s Good Day Connecticut to explain. Some of the point she made:
- While the activity level does drop a bit around the holidays, it isn’t dead. A few years ago, she wrote an offer on Christmas Eve.
- A study of winter home sales found that homes are 9 percent of sellers are more likely to sell a week faster and sell for 1.2 percent more, relative to the list price, than homes listed in any other season.
- In Hartford County, between February 1 – October 7 of this 2016, condos sold for an average of $167,641, while from December 1, 2015 – January 31, 2016 they went for $168,694.
- Less inventory means less competition and more serious buyers.
