WEST HARTFORD — The Sears and Sears Auto Center in West Hartford will close its doors come January 2017.

Sears takes up a large portion of the shopping center known as Corbins Corner across from West Farms mall.

“Until then, the store itself will continue to remain open and we will continue to serve our customers and members,” said Howard Riefs, Director of Communications for Sears Holding. “The store will begin its liquidation sale on November 11.”

The closing is part of a deal with a company called “Seritage Growth Partners” which bought the West Hartford store.

There is no word yet on how many jobs will be lost.

“The number of associates is not publicly available,” Riefs said in a statement to FOX 61. “Those associates that are eligible will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores.”

This summer, ten Sears and 68 Kmart stores closed across the U.S., including the Putnam, Connecticut KMart.
