HAMDEN — Three firefighters were taken to the hospital to be treated for burns after battling a blaze in Hamden Wednesday morning.

Crews were called to a house on Choate Avenue just before 11 a.m., said Deputy Chief Gary Merwede. A person passing by first noticed the house on fire and called it in. No one was home at the time.

It took about 30 minutes before crews were able to get the fire under control, said Merwede.

All three of the injured firefighters are expected to be treated and released from the hospital later Wednesday.

Hamden Fire Marshal Brian Dolan’s preliminary investigative report said the fire started in the garage area, but the cause is still under investigation.

Merwede said the people who lived in the home are staying with family and friends.
