2 arrested after Acura drives pickup off the road in Ledyard over fight about a cell phone

LEDYARD–Two men were arrested in Ledyard this weekend after one intentionally drove the other off the road while both were drunk, according to police.

Around 2:24 a.m. on Saturday a 2016 Acura RDX and 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup were driving south on Route 12 in Ledyard when the Acura intentionally hit the right back side of the Dodge, causing the pickup truck to rotate and come to a stop on the grassy shoulder. The Dodge tried to get back on the road, but the Acura then hit the Dodge again, making it turn 180 degrees and eventually flip onto its side and then roll.

The cars came to a rest with the Acura’s front two tires on top of the Dodge’s roof. They were on the grass shoulder on the northbound side of Route 12, near Drawbridge West, at that point.

Police say that when the cars stopped, the driver of the Acura, identified as Nicholas Summers, 29, of Mansifeld Center, got out of his car and started a physical fight with the driver of the Dodge, identified as Benjamin Beaudoin, 33, of South Windham. Beaudoin was still in his car at the time.

Police later learned that the two were acquaintances and had been in a “scrum” at a bar before the incident. They fought over Summers’ phone, and Summers then chased Beaudoin thinking he had his cell phone.

Both men were arrested for driving under the influence, among other charges.

Summers was taken to the hospital for a minor hand injury, but neither Beaudoin nor his passenger were hurt.

Beaudoin, 33 was charged with DUI and released on $500 bond. He’ll be in court December 1.

Summers was charged with criminal attempt to commit assault in the second degree with a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment in the first degree, criminal mischief in the first degree, breach of peace, DUI and reckless driving. He was released on $10,000 bond and will be in court December 1 as well.
