HARTFORD — Federal authorities said a Waterbury man who was charged after another man’s fatal heroin overdose has pleaded guilty.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said 20-year-old Teddy Lopez Jr. entered the plea Wednesday in Hartford to possession with intent to distribute and distribution of heroin. He faces up to 20 years when he’s sentenced in February.

The office says Lopez was charged after an investigation into the death of a 23-year-old North Haven man, who was found unresponsive on the Hartford Turnpike in May and later died at a hospital. Authorities said an investigation revealed the victim most likely purchased heroin from Lopez before his death.

Authorities said investigators made two controlled purchases of heroin from Lopez. They said he was in possession of heroin at the time of his arrest.
