Route 32 back open after serious head-on collision

WILLIMANTIC – Willimantic Police are investigating after a head-on collision on West Main Street otherwise known as Route 32 in Willimantic resulted in 3 people being taken to the hospital.

The call came in to police around 2:00 a.m.. On arrival, first responders found one woman trapped in a car, unconscious. City Fire Rescue was able to extricate her, and she was then taken to Windham Hospital in an ambulance. When she arrived, she was immediately flown to Hartford Hospital vis Lifestar where she’s undergoing surgery for her injuries.

Two men who were in the other car which was traveling westbound. They were also transported to Windham Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Willimantic Accident Reconstruction Team has been at the scene since 2:30 a.m. and police anticipate them staying on the scene for another hour. Route 32 has since reopened.

The accident happened at a time when many bars were closing and on a busy stretch of road in the City of Willimantic, and Lt. Stanley Parizo is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to please call Willimantic Police.  All information given will remain confidential.
