NEW HAVEN – New Haven Police are investigating after a man was found shot in the leg on Whalley Avenue.

Around 9:56 p.m., a New Haven officer patrolling Whalley Avenue near lower Blake Street heard gunfire nearby. He rounded the corner onto Blake Street and found a shooting victim on the sidewalk.

The victim, 23-year-old Shane Daquan Dunkley-Rountree from Hamden was shot in the leg and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment. His injuries are non-life threatening.

The shooter has not been found. They fled the scene in a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix (color not confirmed). The shooter is only being described as heavy-set.

Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting, or who may have information valuable to the New Haven Police investigators is urged to call detectives at 203-846-6304. Calls can remain anonymous.
