SOUTHBURY–A cat is recovering after suffering from some awful burns, but he needs help for a full recovery.
Last weekend the Rose Hope Rescue Inc. DBA Whiskers Pet Rescue — “Whiskers” for short — helped to save a little kitty from Bristol who lost most of his skin.
It’s not clear what happened to Lucky to cause the injuries.
The cat, who has been named Lucky, was badly injured in Bristol, and had to be rushed to an emergency veterinarian for care. In the past week he’s had two surgeries to deep clean his burns and to close some of the open wounds, but that’s not the end of his road.
“LUCKY is a super sweet boy who will require months of on going care with bandage changes and medication,” Caroline Abate, the creator of the GoFundMe set up for Lucky’s care. Abate is also an adoption coordinator at the rescue.
Well, while the no-kill rescue, which is a nonprofit and doesn’t receive state or federal funding, has committed to caring for Lucky, it needs help to pay for the care, which is expected to come in close to $6,000, not including the fostering care. One of the veterinary technicians is fostering little Lucky while he receives ongoing care, but the rescue shelter and veterinarian are still providing medical treatments.
The community has definitely responded: in just six days the GoFundMe has raised about $2,800 of the $5,800 goal (as of Monday evening), and there’s also a mail-in donation address raising money too.
The rescue says Lucky “is a super sweet boy who loves to have his head rubbed and is very talkative. He certainly has a story to tell!”
