Southbury car fire

SOUTHBURY – Two people have died after a single-car crash in Southbury on Friday morning.

At about 9:45 a.m. on Friday, State Police said they responded to I-84 west near exit 14 for a single-vehicle crash.  A 2001 Suburu Legacy was heading west when it left the road and hit a tree. Police said the car was on fire and two people were trapped inside.

The driver, Warren J. Rynkar, 69 of Malden, Mass., was pronounced dead on the scene by EMTs. The passenger, John Thomas Rynkar, 26, was taken to Waterbury Hospital and pronounced dead by hospital staff.

I-84 was closed but had reopened at around 1:45 p.m. State police are urging drivers to use caution when approaching the area, as traffic may be backed up.
