EAST HARTFORD — The Huskies struggled to move the ball on offense yet again and found themselves losing to Tulane 38-13, the cellar dweller team of the American Conference, on Senior Day at Rentschler Field in East Hartford.
The loss dropped UConn to 3-9, 1-7 in the American, while Tulane improved to 4-8 and also notched their first conference win of the season (1-7).
Things didn’t go the Huskies way from the outset, as their opening possession ended with a blocked punt that led to Tulane’s first points of the game in the form of a 23-yard field goal by Andrew DiRocco.
The home team also committed three first half turnovers and had their only legitimate scoring chance end in a blocked field goal from 29 yards out as UConn trailed 24-0 at the break.
Seniors Noel Thomas and Obi Melifonwu made the most of their final game in the blue and white. Thomas recorded 9 receptions for 60 yards, while also completing a 10-yard pass to quarterback Donovan Williams on a trick play in the first quarter. Melifonwu led the team with 24 tackles.
