BRANFORD — Police in Branford are warning people about a Cyber Monday computer scam.

Since around 8 a.m., police said they received many calls from people complaining about the scam. The calls came primarily from senior citizens, according to Branford Police Captain Geoffrey Morgan.

“The caller tells the victims that their computer has been compromised and the victims are providing personal information, including bank account information to the caller,” Captain Morgan said. “Shortly thereafter, the victim’s bank accounts are compromised and funds removed.”

Chief Kevin Halloran reminds everyone, that personal information including banking information or computer login and passwords, should never be given out over the phone or through their computer emails.

“Almost every time it leads to a case of fraud,” Chief Halloran said.
