SOUTH WINDSOR -- Four Connecticut towns put their police resources together for a first: a joint recruitment fair.

The police departments from South Windsor, Glastonbury, Vernon, and Manchester teamed up for their first ever police recruitment fair.

"We're really focused on attracting quality candidates," said Deputy Chief Scott Custer from the South Windsor Police Department. Custer, as well as cohorts from the other area departments, greeted potential officer candidates at Maneeley's Banquet Hall.

As a result of retirements and officers moving on, the Manchester Police Department could need to fill as many as a dozen positions in the year ahead.

"We want people who have life experience, people who have some background in technology," said Manchester Captain Barrington Prawl.

By all accounts, the police departments said they were pleased with the turnout for their first recruiting fair. Custer noted that the four forces are discussing plans to put on a similar event in the spring.
