MILFORD - A Milford Police cruiser was involved in an accident on I-95 northbound at the Exit 39 ramp Wednesday morning. Police said the incident is connected to several burglaries plaguing the city in recent weeks.

It all started when police said they were called to the upper Naugatuck/Beaver Brook neighborhood at around 5 a.m. to investigate two early-morning burglaries. That led to a chase, which ended on I-95 with the suspects' van crashing into a Milford Police K-9 SUV.

"It appears that the vehicle, the van, lost control, spun out, and that's when it collided with our SUV," said PFC Mike DeVito, the Milford police spokesman.

Two suspects were arrested and are in area hospitals recovering, but a third suspect ran off. One of the suspects was bit by the K-9, the other the injured in the crash. The person they are still looking for is a 20-year-old man, police said. Both the K-9 officer and his handler involved in the crash will be okay.

The two 20 year olds apprehended were Kelvin Quintero and Noel Figueroa-Flores, who live together in New Haven. Both have outstanding arrest warrants in other jurisdictions.

In the car police found dirt bikes and power equipment that had been stolen from the burglaries earlier Wednesday morning.

Police in Milford have reported at least a dozen of these types of burglaries recently, where leaf blowers and generators have been stolen from sheds and detached garages.

"We are probably close to 12 now in the last two weeks," said DeVito.

Police are asking you to contact them if you see anything suspicious.
