BRIDGEPORT — The trial of a Bridgeport man accused of fatally shooting a construction worker shortly after inquiring about a job at a work site near his home is now underway.
Gregory Weathers faces charges that include murder in the March 26, 2015 death of 31-year-old Jose Araujo, of Milford.
The Connecticut Post reports retired police detective Paul Ortiz testified before a three-judge panel Tuesday that the 34-year-old Weathers had been looking for a job at a construction site and was frustrated because he thought there were no openings.
Police said Weathers thought he had been rejected by the foreman of a Burns Construction job when he opened fire at the work site, killing Araujo.
Weathers has maintained he is suffering from a mental disease or defect, an insanity defense.
