STORRS - The bench depth for the UConn Huskies just got a lot shallower with the loss of three key players due to injury, including freshman point guard Alterique Gilbert.
Head coach Kevin Ollie said no excuses will be given, plus the situation has created an opportunity for another freshman guard Christian Vital to grab a lot of key game time minutes.
So far, he is taking full advantage, as Vital led all Huskies with 13 points in their win against Boston University on Wednesday night.
The UConn men play Syracuse Monday night at 7 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
