EASTON — Police said a man was arrested after they seized over a pound and a half of suspected crystal meth.

On Monday, police arrested Cavan Devine, 24, after they found  26.59 ounces of suspected crystal methamphetamine and 577 Xanax pills, along with packaging information, and a cell phone and computer.

The crystal meth is valued at over $50,000 and the pills are valued at over $10,000, according to police, who said it was one of the largest seizures of crystal meth in the area.

Police said they monitored calls that came from a home on Silver Hill Road in Easton, where Devine rented a room. Police said they searched his room and car, and also searched the Holiday Inn on Main Street in Bridgeport, where Devine had recently stayed. A small quantity of suspected crystal meth and other evidence was seized there, police said.

Devine was charged with operating a drug factory, drug possession, two counts of possession of a narcotic with intent to sell, failure to keep narcotics in original container, disorderly conduct, and selling drugs. His bail was set at $ 500,000.

Police said there was no evidence that the crystal meth was made by Devine but evidence seized showed signs of him dealing drugs through the mail.

Mark Sherman, Devine’s criminal lawyer, said his client’s case is one of addiction, not distribution.

“It’s a sensitive and serious health matter that we hope to work through with the assistance of the court and its intervention services,” Sherman said in a statement to FOX 61.
