NEW HAVEN — An Enfield man who threw a beer glass at his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, severing an artery that almost led to the victim’s death, has been sentenced to serve eight months in prison.

The New Haven Register reports that Dillon Ryan pleaded no contest to second-degree assault in connection with the June 2015 attack in a crowded Hamden bar.

A judge sentenced Ryan to five years in prison with eight months to serve and four years of probation.

Police said Ryan and a victim got into a confrontation inside the bar. Ryan said the victim pushed him first.

Police said video surveillance shows Ryan throwing the beer glass when the victim is turned away.

The victim required 20 stitches. Hospital personnel said he was minutes from dying.
