HARTFORD — A ruling by a Connecticut Superior Court judge has added almost $3 million to the cost of Hartford‘s minor league baseball stadium development.

Judge Constance Epstein ruled Monday that the city paid too little when it used eminent domain to take land across from the stadium site for just under $2 million.

The land is expected to be used for the development of retail shops, restaurants, housing and a grocery store.

Epstein found appraisers failed to take into account that a baseball stadium across the street would increase the property’s value.

She ordered the city to pay the former owners, CBV Parking Hartford, a total of $4.8 million. A city lawyer told WNPR-FM the city may appeal.

The stadium is scheduled to open in April, a year behind schedule.
