HARTFORD - Melanie Fish, a Homeaway family travel expert for HomeAway.com and RerouteSanta.com, stopped by FOX 61's Good Day Connecticut to talk with Erica Arias about holiday travel tips and trends.

Staying with family for the holidays comes at a comfort cost. HomeAway’s survey shows most people wind up either sleeping on the floor, sharing a room with their kids, or sleeping on a couch.

Renting a home gives you a home away from home feeling for the holidays and room to spread out.

Whether you’re going on vacation or renting a home down the street from your in-laws, so you’ll have room to spread out, vacation rentals can give you twice as much space for about half the cost per person compared to booking a hotel room.

Kids think spending time with family during the holidays is important just like adults do but about half of the kids we surveyed are a little worried Santa won’t find them when they are away from home for the holidays.

If you’re traveling with little ones over Christmas, visit RerouteSanta.com and let Santa know where you’ll be. He’ll write back and confirm that the reindeer know where to go.
