Pedestrian hit and killed in Hamden identified

HAMDEN — Hamden Police have identified a man who was struck and killed in the early morning hours on Dixwell Avenue in Hamden.

Police say they responded around 2:00 a.m. to the accident.  Harris Tendler, 58, of Hamden, was trying to cross Dixwell avenue when he was struck by a motor vehicle which was travelling northbound. When police and fire crews arrived, they attempted medical assistance but Tendler was declared dead by paramedics. He was taken to the Office of the CHeif Medical Examiner in Farmington for an autopsy.

The driver of the vehicle, Piercey Lane, 70, of Bridgeport, stopped immediately and contacted emergency personnel. Lane was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
