ENFIELD – Enfield‘s Board of Education voted to close the Nathan Hale Elementary School Tuesday night.

At Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting in Enfield, members voted 5-4 to close the school at the end of this year.

About 230 students will have to be relocated to the town’s three remaining elementary schools.

According to The Hartford Courant, one parent tried to submit a 300-signature petition to the school board during the public hearing at the meeting.

School officials told her to drop off the petition to the central office Wednesday.

Closing the school was suggested to the board earlier this year by the district’s superintendent as a way to save money during a tight budget year next year.
