HARTFORD — The Connecticut Department of Banking is warning people who have used a wire transfer service that they may be victims.

If you’ve used Century Union Services to wire money and did not receive the services you paid for, the DOB would like you to come forward. They say they believe many people were affected since October, when the department issued a cease and desist order to Century Union.

There are three locations in Connecticut:

  • Link Travel & Services, 1839 Park Street, Hartford
  • Bull Boi Meat Supermarket, 827 North Avenue, Bridgeport
  • Bem Brasil Market, 213 White Street #1, Danbury

The DOB claims Century Union failed to transmit money received by customers, thus engaging in fraud and intentional misrepresentations. This, the department says, is grounds for Century Union’s money transmission license to be revoked in the state, and that Century Union and Robes Barboza face fines

If you were effected, email bondclaims@capspecialty.com to notify the Capitol Indemnity Corporation insurance, which will issue a claim. Complete the claim, with a notarized signature, and return it to the insurance company.

A hearing will also be held on Thursday, December 15 at 10 a.m. at 260 Constitution Plaza in Hartford.

“These actions will not be tolerated here in Connecticut. I encourage anyone who may have had dealings with Century Union to come forward by contacting the insurance company which holds Century Union’s surety bond directly or the Department of Banking. We at the Department are here to serve all Connecticut residents,” said Banking Commissioner Perez. “I sympathize with the families who have been impacted by Century Union’s failure to provide the services they were paid to perform, particularly this time of year.”
