Veterans in need get HOPE for the Holidays

HARTFORD — FOX 61’s Hope for the Holidays is to bring comfort and thanks to veterans who need our help this holiday season. We’re teaming up with the American Red Cross in collecting warm clothing and restaurant gift cards at The Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk in South Windsor through December 6.

On Thursday, the warm clothing and other items were to veterans in need.

Since November, FOX 61 has been collecting  items like gloves, mittens and hats, and many were donated by you, our viewers, at Evergreen Walk in South Windsor. Other items were collected by the Red Cross.

Those care packages were delivered at the South Park Inn on Thursday to dozens of families in need.

William Pitts, an Army veteran, said, “It was very wonderful. They made you feel like you were at home even though it was a shelter. You get three meals a day and everything was nice. They treat you just like you were on of their children.”
