GROTON — Sixty five Connecticut National Guard members were welcomed home in Groton Sunday.

The 1109th Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance group was welcomed home Sunday morning. They were deployed in Afghanistan and Kuwait to assist a NATO mission.

The team is one of only four of its kind in the country.

Members say, they’re thankful to be home, but know there are others now in their places.

“We’re able to hold out loved ones we’re here for the holidays, but we’re also, in the back of our minds thinking the people that replaced us are still there,” said Lt. Paille

Governor Malloy and Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman were also on hand to welcome the service members home.
