NEW HAVEN  — The trial of a reputed Hartford street gang member accused of killing a man in 2011 is set to resume.

A jury is scheduled to resume hearing evidence in the case against 27-year-old Arthur Stanley on Monday in federal court in New Haven. He’s charged with committing a violent crime in aid of racketeering in the killing of 23-year-old Keith Washington of Windsor.

Prosecutors say Stanley shot Washington because he was looking to improve his standing in the West Hell gang. He was among 25 people arrested in a May 2014 crackdown on gang activity in the city’s North End.

Stanley’s lawyers have said that the government’s case is based in part on the testimony of unreliable jailhouse informants.

The trial began on Dec. 5.
