NAUGATUCK -- One Connecticut business owner is finally getting his "just desserts."
John Cummings, a former longshoreman, or someone who loads ships, became a cake maker after being injured on the job five years ago. He says that's when he opened StoneHouse Baked Goods in Naugatuck.
This summer, Cummings got a call from the "Cake Wars" producers in Hollywood.
"They said 'can you be out here within a week?' So we packed up and went out."
Cummings and his lead cake decorator, Ashley Grom, said the competition might be all about sweets, but it did make them sweat. "It was crazy, absolutely crazy," Grom said. "It was so nerve wracking."
The theme for the show Cummings and Grom appeared was creating a Rose Bowl cake.
"You pretty much have to be an artist and engineer so it can be a structurally sound cake," Cummings said.
Their "Cake Wars" episode airs on December 26 on The Food Network. The winners of the four-team competition take home a $10,000 prize, but Cummings couldn't say how his team did.
